With the *Vasi Rovesciati* (Inverted Vases)—or *Morandiana*—Nedda Guidi’s desire to shatter the stereotype of the ceramicist as a mere potter manifests once again, while simultaneously paying homage to the craft and the sophisticated artisanal expertise that has safeguarded human tradition over the centuries. A conceptual transformation comes into play here: as with other works, Guidi negates the object's original function by sealing the vessel's opening and turning it upside down. The result is an elegant, history-rich composition reminiscent of amphorae left to dry before firing or after having served their everyday human purpose.

The artist frequently assembled the composition according to specific exhibition requirements, only to alter it for the next showing—adding or removing elements, or even replacing just a portion—meaning that some components appear in exhibitions and compositions different from those in which they are subsequently found. For the 2024 Venice Biennale, at the request of curator Adriano Pedrosa, twenty-seven elements were brought together to form a single work.
